André L.

Father of Gabriel, 9 years old · 7 months

"My son was the shyest kid in class. We put him in Island BJJ without much expectation. In 3 months, he won a gold medal at a state tournament and started leading his group at school. I can't explain exactly what happened — but I know it happened."

Mother of Isabela, 8 years old · 6 months

"My daughter was being bullied at school and we didn't know what to do. Coach Carmel worked with her not just on technique, but on posture and confidence. In 2 months, the bullying stopped. In 6 months, she's the one protecting her friends."

Father of Pedro, 11 years old · 10 months

"My son couldn't sit still for 5 minutes. His grades were dropping. We tried BJJ as a last resort. In one month the change was visible. Today, 10 months later, he's a top student and wakes up by himself on training days."

Common questions.

What's the minimum age to start? +

We accept children from 6 years old. Classes are organized by age group and body size — not skill level. A 6-year-old never trains with a 14-year-old.

Will my child get hurt? +

BJJ is called the 'gentle art' for a reason. Our kids classes have controlled contact and constant supervision. The first thing every child learns is how to fall safely. Our kids program injury rate is near zero — lower than recreational soccer.

Will this make my child want to fight? +

The opposite. BJJ teaches that the greatest victory is not needing to fight. Children who practice martial arts have lower rates of aggressive behavior — they learn when to use strength and, more importantly, when they don't need to.

What if my child wants to quit after a week? +

There's no commitment. The free week is exactly for discovering if it makes sense. If it doesn't, no problem. If it does — and it usually does — the BJJ belt and stripe system is designed to keep kids engaged: every bit of progress is visible on the gi.

Can I watch the classes? +

Yes, always. Parents are welcome at any class, without prior notice. Full transparency.
